NEWS UPDATE

'Do not worry about your originality. You could not get rid of it even if you wanted to.'
                                                                                                                                                                         -- Robert Henri

Meeting Notes 8th March 2010

Paintings on exhibit in Kiernan's shoe shop during 2008 Arts TrailArts Trail
Following the success of previous Arts Trails it was decided at the meeting to run another one this year over the Easter break. The aim is to display paintings/photos/small sculptures/other art works in the shop windows along Trimgate Street, Navan. Previous years received very good feedback from both shopkeepers, public and the artists. Volunteers are needed to meet with shop owners/managers this Friday morning (12th March) and possibly during the week to discuss the project with them. If you've got an hour to spare this Friday morning and fancy a coffee then contact us on info@meathartsgroup.com to arrange to meet. We aim to run the Arts Trail from Friday 26th March to - Friday 9th April. Email us before Wednesday 17th March to include your name on the exhibitors list.

Arts Film Night
The first of the film nights where we saw Bacon's Arena was really well attended and very enjoyable. Our thanks to Logan Sisley of the Hugh Lane Gallery for the excellent lecture about Francis Bacon before the film. Thanks also to Solstice Arts Centre for the refreshments.
Dates and film title for the next (April) have yet to be confirmed.
The film will start at 8pm which will then be folowed by an informal discussion (a bit of chat really!). Refreshments are provided. Tickets €8.00.
Please support this night - it's a great night out and a great place to meet people you know and people you don't know.

In Between
 Gallery
Peter McKenna, Marayisa Harasimowicz and Loreto Reilly have been selected to show at the In Between gallery in Solstice from April 26th to May 8th. The next available date is in July so now is the time for interested groups of artists within Meath Arts Group to send group submissions to info@meathartsgroup.com

Annual Group Exhibition
Meath Arts Group will have a group exhibition in December at Solstice Arts Centre from December 10th - 23rd. The theme/title will be decided at the next meeting so put your thinking caps on now and come up with some wonderfully creative ideas for the next meeting on April 12th.

Jim Connell Festival
This annual festival takes place in Crossakiel, Kells from Friday 30th April - Sunday 2nd May. The festival honours Jim Connell, author of The Red Flag -- the anthem of the Labour movement.  On Sunday 2nd May there is a parade and additional events through the village. Artists are welcome to come along and exhibit/sell their wares. There is no fee for this. Click here for further details.

The Point Village Market
The Point Village market is aiming to create an outlet for the people most affected by the economic downturn - students, artists, butcher, baker, candlestickmakers etc. There will be a weekly weekend market of 100 stalls - some permanent, some transient. To secure a stall requires an application process and a commitment. There is a monthly introductory fee (8 days trading) of €484 inc. VAT for a 3m x 3m stall (your average gazebo which must be sufficiently weighted down). Must have public liability insurance.
www.vscevents.ie for further details.

Artist's Insurance
Meath Arts Group have received a discounted group rate for public liability insurance. Please email us to add your name to the list if you're interested in availing of a group discount. It has been suggested that insurance be included in the Arts Group memberships fees. Let us know your thoughts on this one.  info@meathartsgroup.com

Christmas Extravaganza
A sub-committee has been formed to liaise on a proposal to create a Christmas event to be proud of this December. Further volunteers are always welcome. This is a great opportunity to be really creative. Please email info@meathartsgroup.com for further details.

Book Launch
Edel Gillick (author) and Sharon Maher-Bordalo (Illustrator) will be launching their children's book in Navan Library on 8th April 2010. (To be confirmed). Details will follow.
